Here's a random thought from my comm. class...What came first, thought or language? it seems simple enough but then you start thinking about it and its quite wierd. Can you think if you don't know a language? I know I think in english. Or, without being taught a language, will thought give birth to language? I don't know.
Did you know that Mark 1:1 could be considered a play on words and attack on Augustus Caesar. The Greeks would carve "Augustus Caesar God Son of God" into stone so Mark's first verse "Jesus Christ, the Son of God" proclaims that a new king has come who is over caesar. That's some thoughts from bible class.
Anyway this is my first blog so let me know what you think i probably wont post everyday but whenever I have a thought I'll try to put it up so I can get some feedback.
I got kinda confused after the first sentence. (: lol.
ReplyDeleteBut i did get the language is what provokes thought because thought is an expression which you understand through a language but then i wander you had to think before you could invent a language. so i say thought still.
But Karli...How could you thiink if you knew no words??
ReplyDeleteInteresting thoughts...however, I think God put thought in us first...he gave us understanding...I say this because in Genesis 1:16 when God spoke to Adam...Adam understood. Not that he did not speak, but we don't know of Adam speaking until he starts naming the animals...is that how he learned to talk?? How cool would it be to be taught to think and speak by God. What did they talk about in their garden walks....
Do babies think in a language before they are taught a language...I think maybe we think in pictures but also we rationalise in whatever language we speak...maybe
ReplyDeleteGreat thoughts, but you have to wonder about those thoughts in the garden when God and Adam walked in the cool of the day. Did they have to speak, or did they just communicate and fellowship. I know sometimes talking is overrated, so I would have to agree that thought came first.
